Can you wash them?
This is the most common question that we get asked.
Yes, you can wash them. – how … is the trick!
These mats are polyester filled, that is, like Dacron, the stuff in our doonas. We use sheets of polyester that is purchased from an insulation company. The poly is woven very thickly, much thicker than the stuff you get at fabric stores. It is industrial strength.
Can you wash them in the machine?
“We don’t recommend that you do, but if you must……..fold them up in half (lengthwise) and tie them with old stockings, put in the machine bowl, gentle wash in cold water, and check before spinning that it is still around the bowl. This should keep the poly from dislodging inside the machine.
If they dislodge, grab two corners and give a hard shake, this hopefully will resettle the poly inside the mat, then turn around and repeat to the other side. Like shaking sand from a towel motion.
DO NOT PLACE IN DRYER, EVER!! The poly will survive, but the material (cotton or corduroy) will shrink.
With the bigger mats, they are too big to squash in the machine.
Wash them like this:
Lay mat on flat surface, such as driveway or verandah. Hose down. Get woolmix or dog shampoo, and wash surface of mat with a sweeping motion. (woolmix and dog shampoo are gentle on dog’s coats, repels fleas, and if residue left on mat, won’t hurt the skin) then hose down again. Lay flat on maybe a bush or outdoor setting to drip dry in sun. We recommend not to hang up as it will take longer to dry as the water runs from top to bottom, and can stretch the mat out of shape. Laying flat is far better, and the cotton mats won’t crease, whereas the machine will crinkle the cotton. Turn mat over as side dries, and in the summer, the mat will dry in no time. (ours on the verandah thatgets rain all the time, dries on its own, we never pick it up and when it rains, yuk, but when the sun comes out, the next day we check it and it’s dry! Great stuff, RRRUFF!
Note, these poly mats will never smell! Foam mats pong badly, they make the dog sweat, just like us humans. We don’t sleep on foam, ( unless camping) and we don’t wear vinyl clothes. Hence when a dog sleeps on foam or vinyl, it sweats and the perspiration seeps into the foam. This remains lodged and gets worse and worse. You can’t wash foam, and when it gets wet, well, throw it away.
Our mats, you can wash over and over and they just last and last.
It will never smell if laundered correctly. This is our best selling point and just look at the color range!
Where else can you get such gorgeous colors! (By the way, orange is not orange, it’s Mango)
Polyester mats are insulation against the cold floor in winter.
Great for arthritic dogs that need warmth. Rubber foam does not do that- generate body heat. Poly insulation does, recirculates the dogs own body heat.
Medium size is common for terriers, even staffys.
Large is the least popular size, but still, they are necessary. Note _ the large is the same length as the xl, but the xl is wider (squarer) this is great for the longer legged dogs, whereas the large is more suitable for most kennels.
XL is the most popular size. Great for labs, retrievers, rotties (smaller ones) and often purchased for two or three smaller dogs that sleep together.
XXL, OOOh, it’s sooooo big.
Does it have a zip, can I take the cover off?
In most cases, our bedding have zips. Not having a removable cover shouldn’t be an issue, ( in most cases). You can still wash the bed.
All our bedding is fast drying, and light. Easy to handle.
Will the dog chew it?
“If the dog chews. nothing is indestructible, not even wood or plastic will survive a dogs’ teeth. These mats are for sleeping on, not for chewing ”
Try our tuff stuff range or maybe, just buy them a bone!
TUFF STUFF
This material is fantastic for dogs that dig/scratch and play roughly on their bedding. Our puppies have not demolished their pillow, after six months, it’s still alive. It’s industrial strength polypropolene (don’t know what it is, but it sounds good) made for hard wearing, long lasting furniture.
We’ve sold heaps. It’s easy drying also, and lightweight.
